The World Is A Book and Those Who Do Not Travel Read Only One Page

As Mom recently told some of her grandchildren while viewing slides from one of their trips, “That’s your grandfather for you, he tried everything and I just went along.”

Family trips with the four kids represent just a portion of the trips taken by Mom and Dad - many trips were taken after we went off to college. Mom and Dad worked very hard on the farm. Dad in particular was very intense about his farm tasks - whether it was remodeling machinery, planting or harvesting crops, or tending to the livestock. Sometimes he would work so hard and maybe even forget to eat - Mom understood that, brought food to the field and Dad would eat and feel much better.

But the real way for Dad to relax and get away from the labors and frustration of the farm work was to get in the car and travel. He would relax and thoroughly enjoy traveling - Mom could see that he needed to get away and went along with it (she enjoyed it, too - once they got on the road or in the air - recording the daily events of each trip.....for the record).

Shown below is a chronological list of trips that Mom and Dad (and sometimes family) took from 1935-1982. This is probably a list that would rival that of most families. Either traveling is a highly heritable trait or the trips rubbed off on their children because most of them enjoy traveling as well.
